Jaspersoft Commercial Licenses Grant Legal Protections

Jaspersoft commercial licenses provide indemnification and warranties that are expected in commercial software licenses. These are significant benefits that you will not see in open source licenses.

Jaspersoft's open source products are licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License (L-GPL) or General Public License (GPL). Open source licenses do not provide protections against claims that the software may infringe upon another's intellectual property rights (indemnification). Indemnification matters because a third-party patent holder, for example, could claim that Jaspersoft and users of the Jaspersoft software infringe the patent-holder's intellectual property rights.

Open Source Licenses Provide Software "As-Is"

The GNU GPL also does not provide warranties. If the software is provided "as-is." If it is found to be defective, the copyright owner (in this case, Jaspersoft), has no obligations under the GNU GPL.
