Staff Mid/Senior Tech Writer

Description:

The right candidate for this position is inquisitive, confident, and tenacious. Your success will derive largely from your willingness to use the products yourself and learn from your experience. Seniority is less important than motivation and ability to learn quickly, so this job might be suitable for an intermediate Technical Writer with a track record of accomplishment in a fast-paced, ambitious startup. Our products are under rapid development, and our technology and industry change quickly. We are looking for candidates who show they can adapt and learn new technologies and techniques quickly and grow as our company grows.

  • Plan, create, and edit user-friendly conceptual, procedural, and developer-reference documentation for web-based applications running under Linux and Windows.
  • Collaborate with local SMEs in development and professional services, as well as resources in Australia, Ukraine, and Romania, read marketing and design specifications, and use the products yourself.
  • Use MS Word and FrameMaker to create content, which will include online documentation, online help, and JavaDoc. (FrameMaker is being implemented presently.)
  • Contribute to creation of product demos and requirements documents.
  • Work without managerial or editorial assistance to gather and test content and deliver on deadline.

 

Qualifications:

  • At least three (3), and preferably five (5) or more years’ software industry documentation experience creating content for a variety of user types (especially operators, system administrators, and developers).
  • Familiarity with industry-standard tools, such as FrameMaker, Microsoft Office, and Paint Shop Pro.
  • Conceptual familiarity with complex enterprise applications and relational databases, and awareness of open-source documentation norms.

Senior UI / Interaction Designer

Description:

This position is responsible for defining task flows and designing all user interfaces for the JasperSoft Business Intelligence Suite. This includes consulting with representatives of the user community to gather/validate use case/story/task information, creation of process flow documentation, and providing direction to the implementation team during the development and test phases.

  • Design Web 2.0 / Ajax user interactions for business users, incorporating all appropriate usability and human factors considerations and design standards
  • Work with Product Management to understand business requirements
  • Research features, analyze task flows, and write functional specifications to communicate to Product Managers and Developers how the product is intended to work
  • Develop UI outlines, wire frames, and sample screens, as well as detailed user interaction specifications
  • Develop production HTML and graphics where applicable
  • Follow-through on design with developers to ensure adherence to the design
  • Provide assistance to QA and Tech Pubs organizations to ensure product is properly QA’d and documented

 

Skills & Abilities:

Developer Support Engineer

Description:

The Developer Support Engineer provides developer-level support assistance to customers of the JasperSoft Business Intelligence Suite as they build business-critical applications. The Developer Support Engineer will be responsible for contributing to our growing developer community; interacting with and supporting third-party developers. This will involve debugging, troubleshooting, writing sample code, and taking responsibility to see that the issue is fully resolved.

To aid successful deployments, the Developer Support Engineer will manage and participate in developer discussion forums and support queues to debug and resolve technical & coding problems. The Developer Support Engineer will ultimately feedback these technical nuggets into internal systems to help our team operate more efficiently while also empowering and enabling the developer community.

Qualifications:

  • Ideal candidates will have working knowledge of Web services technologies (including XML, SOAP, XSLT, and WSDL) and programming languages ( JAVA, C#, and/or PHP).
  • Experience in J2EE application servers such as JBoss, Tomcat, WebSphere and WebLogic a must.
  • Basic network/user administration experience on Windows, Solaris and Linux
  • 3+ years programming work experience
  • 2+ years in an enterprise support role

Sales Engineer (Ireland)

Description:

The Sales Engineer is a member of the Sales team whose goal is to assist Sales in achieving their goals by providing Reporting and Business Intelligence software pre-sales support. The Sales Engineer will work as a solution specialist with the sales force and properly position offerings with our prospects in order to win business opportunities. This support will include pre-sales strategy planning, chalk talks and professional BI demonstrations, BI industry knowledge and competitive expertise. The Sales Engineer works closely with Sales to drive the pre-sale technical evaluation process.

Responsibilities:

  • Pre-sales activities are designed to lead to the sale of Business Intelligence software and other products and services.
  • The successful Pre-Sales SE will accomplish the following, with a heavy emphasis on high quality customized demonstrations:
  • Understand and explain the features and benefits of BI product.
  • Compare and explain BI features to those of the leading competitors.
  • Be able to functionally describe Business Intelligence product at any technical level and articulate its capabilities and interoperability with other products.
  • Effectively demonstrate the functionality of product.
  • Discover and document prospects needs and (versus) wants.
  • Architect technical hardware/software solution with clients products based on the customer's business requirements.
  • Prepare and deliver formal presentations and demos to prospect technical/management teams that outline solutions and articulate the clients value proposition.
  • Be comfortable presenting to groups of all sizes including large audiences (100+) in seminar settings.
  • Create, enhance or customize existing corporate approved demos to deliver tailored effective presentations of clients product that directly address client needs and competitive situations
  • Meet with local sales reps and manage the process of having pre and post call strategy sessions and assist Sales Rep on coordinating presentation with demos.
  • Act as project leader in the development of all other pre-sales activities.
  • Clearly communicate status and strategy for all pre-sales opportunities and other pertinent/significant information to appropriate team members and branch management.
  • Answer preliminary technical questions and provide information directly to prospect and/or sales rep.
  • Work with other system engineers on implementation plans, Proof of Concepts and prospect handoff process.
  • Provide professional correspondence to prospects regarding upcoming meetings, meeting summaries and next steps or required follow-up from completed meetings.
  • Provide technical support to the sales reps and educate them on new product and service capabilities.

Qualifications:

  • 4 year College degree in Computer Science or technical subject area such as Math or Engineering that require good analytical skills.
  • 4-6 years data processing experience, preferably with pre-sales demo expertise.
  • Proficient in SQL, Java/J2EE, JavaScript, JSP, XML, Linux and Windows.
  • Drivers license.
  • Willingness and ability to travel with little notice.

Professional Services Manager (Ireland)

Description:

The Professional Services Manager will technically support professional services business development activities and provide technical team leadership to professional services staff. The manager will assist in professional services sales activity, mentor and train the professional services staff, work with engineering and product teams to enhance JasperSoft products and perform direct professional services consulting.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years Professional Services experience
  • 4 year college degree or equivalent
  • 1-3 years training experience
  • 5+ years working in a professional services capacity working with J2EE software
  • 7+ years in a consulting capacity
  • Self sufficient
  • Travel up to 30% of the time
  • Combination of technical and client management skills
  • Ability to pass background screening and drug testing.

Essential Functions

New Business Development.
The Professional Services Manager/Team Lead (PSM) will assist sales and marketing team with professional services business development, including technically qualifying, scoping and estimating service opportunities in targeted opportunities. He/she will analyze customer requirements and develop the detailed, technical scope of work for professional services proposals.

Technical Team Leadership.
The PSM will provide technical leadership to the consulting team. He/she will assist the Director Professional Services with developing career development goals and technical enablement plans for consulting staff. The PSM will develop and deliver internal training on current products and new technologies to staff on a regular basis. He/she will provide architecture, design and implementation assistance to consultants working on projects as needed.

Consulting Services.
For our professional services customers, the PSM will architect and design reporting solutions, validate implementations, install, customize and configuring our software offerings, and mentor and train developers. Custom software development services will include report development, application integration and development of customer-specific enhancements. The utilization target for this effort is 25%.

Service Offerings.
The PSM will help define and develop ‘consulting specials’ and service package offerings.

Cross Functional Process Advancement.
The PSM will gather defect information and product enhancement requests from the team as the information is discovered in the course of delivering projects. He/she will organize and prioritize this information and provide feedback to the product and engineering teams. The PSM will represent the PS team in internal product planning and feature design activities.
