Running the Installer Activity

For the purpose of training, the tmp directory is opened in a Linux shell for you.

2. 

You can run the installer as root or as a named user.

 

 

Tip: On most Linux systems, the command prompt ends with # when logged in as root user and $ when logged in as a named user. You can also type the command whoami, as shown here, to display your login name.

 

Note: You are logged in as root for this lesson.

3. 

Begin by verifying that the Jaspersoft installer is located in the tmp directory.

 

The long list shell command is an abbreviation. Type two lower-case L's one after the other.

 

Type a valid value e.g. "ll".

4. 

Notice the Execute permissions [x] are set for the Jaspersoft installer.

 

Refer to the Running the Installer Overview if execute permissions are not set.

5. 

Next, run the installer.

 

The installer file name is very long. For the purpose of training, use a shortcut.

 

First, type the relative location of the file, indicated by ./ , then the first few characters from the file name.

 

Type a valid value e.g. "./jasper".

6. 

When you press [Tab], Linux searches for file names that begin with these characters.

 

Press [Tab] to automatically complete the file name.

7. 

The installer name is completed for you.

 

Note: If another file matching the characters appears, press [Tab] again until you locate the file you want.

 

Press [Enter] to run the installer.

8. 

The installation begins.

 

Press [Enter] to continue.

9. 

The SUBSCRIPTION SERVICES AGREEMENT displays.

 

Press [Enter] to progress through each page.

10. 

If you accept the license terms, you can continue the installation. There is no default value. You must type y or n.

 

Type a valid value e.g. "y".

Decision: Please make a selection from the options listed below.

- Select bundled to install and configure a new copy of PostgreSQL

 

- Select existing to create the JasperReports Server repository database in an already installed and running instance of PostgreSQL

Recommendation: Select bundled, even if you have Tomcat or PostgreSQL.

 

That way, you can provision, test, tune and de-provision the evaluation without affecting existing systems, processes or users.
