For the purpose of training, the Downloads folder is opened for you.

Important: You need administrator privileges to install the software.

Right-click the jasperreports-server-5.1-windows-x64-installer application.

Click the Run as administrator menu.

The Setup program begins.

 

Click Next to continue.

7. 

The license agreement appears. Be sure to review the license agreement.

8. 

Click the I accept the agreement option to agree to the license terms.

Click Next to continue.

Notice the installation options and disk space requirement.

Install All Components and Samples is recommended for evaluations and development.

 

It installs and configures:

 

- a bundled Apache Tomcat web application container

- a bundled PostgreSQL repository database server

- JasperReports Server software

- samples, which include reports, dashboards, Domains, users, and data

Custom Install allows you to choose:

 

 

- a bundled or existing Apache Tomcat web application container

- a bundled or existing PostgreSQL repository database server

- samples or no samples

Install All Components and Samples is selected by default.

 

Click Next to install all components and samples.

The recommended installation folder is entered by default. You can change it if you wish.

 

Click Next to accept the default installation folder.

Your installation is now configured.

 

It will take several minutes to complete the installation.

 

Click Next to continue.

Notice the information and resources promoted in the top panel while the software is installed.

A command line window may appear briefly.

19. 

It can take several minutes to create and load the samples. Please be patient.

An uninstaller is created for you.

Installation is complete.

 

 

Note: The option to Start JasperReports Server does not appear when using the Custom Install > Existing Tomcat option.

Click Finish to start JasperReports Server and open a web browser to the login page.

JasperReports Server takes a moment to start up in the background.

 

Next, a web browser opens with the JasperReports Server login page.

Congratulations!

 

JasperReports Server is now installed.

Option 2: Selecting existing Tomcat deploys JasperReports Server to an already installed and running instance of Tomcat.

Database Installation

 

 

Option 1 (default): Selecting bundled PostgreSQL installs and configures a new copy of PostgreSQL for the repository database.

Option 2: Selecting existing PostgreSQL creates the JasperReports Server repository database in an already installed and running instance of PostgreSQL.

Recommendation: For evaluations and development, select bundled, even if you have Tomcat or PostgreSQL.

 

That way you can provision, test, tune and de-provision the software without affecting existing systems, processes or users.

The installer verifies that the ports are not in use. If the ports are in use, try ports 8081 and 8006 instead. Note the port numbers you select.

 

Click Next to accept the default Tomcat ports.

Database port 5432 is entered by default.

 

The installer verifies that the port is not in use. If port 5432 is in use, try port 6543 instead. Note the port number you select.

 

Click Next to accept the default Database server port.

The installer includes samples that are used for documentation, demonstrations, evaluations and training. Yes is selected by default.

 

Recommendation: Install the samples for evaluations.

 

Click Next to install the samples.

Go to step 16

Select I want to use an existing Tomcat.

 

Important: To use an existing Tomcat instance it must be stopped at install time.

Select I want to use an existing PostgreSQL database.

 

Important: To use an existing PostgreSQL database, it must be running at install time. You also need the administrative password for user postgres.

The Question window appears.

 

The installer creates a new database for the JasperReports Server repository.

 

If the repository already exists, the tables are over-written.

 

Click Yes to continue.

Tomcat Server Port 8080 is entered by default.

 

The installer verifies that the port is not in use. If the port is in use, try port 8081  instead. Note the port number you select.

 

Click Next to accept the default Tomcat Server Port 8080.

A Warning window appears if Tomcat is running.

 

 

If this happens, cancel the installation, shut down Tomcat and run the installation again.

Next, locate the PostgreSQL bin directory.

 

 

The PostgreSQL bin directory contains psql, pg_resotre and vacuumdb binary files.

For the purpose of training, the existing PostgreSQL Binary directory is located for you when you click the PostgreSQL Binary Directory box.

 

Click in the PostgreSQL Binary Directory field.

Database IP/Hostname 127.0.0.1 is entered by default. Database Server Port 5432 is entered by default. You can make changes if necesssary.

 

Click Next to accept the default values.

 

Note: Refer to the JasperReports Server Installation Guide for instructions on how to use a remote host.

For the purpose of training, the password for user postgres is entered for you when you click the Password box.

 

Note: The installer cannot handle special characters at the end of a password string. Incompatible characters include: & ; $.

 

Click in the Password field.

Note: The password must be entered twice.

 

Click Next to continue.

A warning appears if PostgreSQL is not running or your credentials are invalid.

 

If this happens, confirm you can connect to PostgreSQL with a database connection tool and resume the installation.

Next, locate the Apache Tomcat home (top level) directory.

For the purpose of training, the existing Apache Tomcat home directory is located for you when you click the Tomcat directory text box,
