Action

1. 

Begin by logging in as joeuser.

Enter "joeuser" into the User ID and Password fields, then click the Log In button.

Select Create > Dashboard from the main menu.

3. 

Note: The Dashboard Designer appears.

4. 

Drill through the folders in the Available Content panel to select reports to add to the dashboard.

 

Expand the Organization > Reports > Samples folders to view the report titles.

5. 

Double-click the Freight Report to move it onto the canvas.

6. 

Note: The Freight Report is now part of the Dashboard.

7. 

Note: To reposition an object on the canvas, first click to select it. The object is surrounded by the dashed selection marquee.

 

When the four-arrow cursor is present, click and drag the item to its new location. Click elsewhere on the canvas to deselect the item.

Note: To resize an object, click to select it, then click and drag the small square selection handle in the lower-right corner.

Increase the report's length.

 

Click and drag the selection handle to the right so the horizontal scroll bar disappears.

Note: The report is expanded, and the bottom scroll bar no longer appears.

Click on the canvas to deselect the report.

Near the top of the Available Content panel, collapse the Organization folder to provide more room in the panel.

Next, add input controls for this report.

 

Click to expand the Special Content folder.

Expand the Single Report Controls folder to find this report’s input controls.

Note: When input controls affect only one report on the dashboard, then they are located in the Single Report Controls folder. Many reports use no input controls, but this report has three.

Click and drag the Country input control to the right of the Shipping Report.

Note: The Country control appears on the canvas. Austria is selected by default.

Click the Country dropdown and select France.

19. 

Note: The report automatically updates to display shipping orders for France.

20. 

Click on the Country label and change the text to Ship Country.

21. 

Press [Enter] on your keyboard to commit the change.

Note: Task 1: Add a report and input controls to a new dashboard, is complete.

Next, add a Custom URL that serves as a news feed in the dashboard.

 

From the Special Content folder, double-click Custom URL to add it to the canvas.

Note: The Custom URL window appears.

Enter "bing.com/news" into the URL text field.

26. 

Click the Ship Country option to leverage the existing Ship Country input control.

27. 

Click in the URL Parameter Name field to delete the text.

28. 

Enter the lower-case letter "q".

Note: The parameter q synchronizes the Bing query with the Country input control. Other websites likely use different parameters.

Click the OK button to save your changes.

Note: The Custom URL appears on the dashboard and is filtered by the Ship Country input control selection.

Select Finland in the Country input control drop-down.

Note: Notice that both the report and Custom URL update to Finland.

 

Task 2: Add a Custom URL to the dashboard, is complete.

Next, add input control buttons.

 

In the Available Content panel, expand the Dashboard Controls folder.

Double-click the Submit and Reset buttons to move them onto the canvas.

Note: The Submit and Reset buttons appear on the canvas.

Select Brazil from the Country drop-down.

38. 

Note: The reports do not update.

When a Submit button is on the dashboard, new input control values are not applied until the Submit button is clicked. The Reset button returns all input controls to their default values.

Click the Submit button.

Note: The country name is updated in the report and Custom URL.

 

Task 3: Add Submit and Reset buttons to the dashboard, is complete.

Now, add a title to the dashboard.

 

Click the dashboard’s title bar (look for Click to add Dashboard title).

Enter the title "Freight Dashboard".

Press your keyboard [Enter] key to commit the edit.

Note: The report title appears at the top center of the dashboard.

Next, preview the dashboard.

 

Click the Preview button at the upper left of the canvas area.

Note: The preview command opens the dashboard in the Dashboard Viewer in a new browser tab.

The dashboard looks the way it should.

 

Close the Browser Tab to return to the Dashboard Designer.

Now, save your dashboard.

 

Select Save > Save Dashboard from the menu.

In the Save As window, enter the name "Freight Dashboard".

Lower in the window, click to expand the Organization folder.

51. 

Select the Reports folder (because joeuser lacks permission to save to the Dashboards folder).

Click the Save button to save the dashboard in the Reports folder.

Finally, retrieve the dashboard and run it from the repository.

 

Enter the text "Freight" into the search field and click the search button.

54. 

Click the OK button in the message window to quit the Dashboard Designer.

On the search results page, click the Freight Dashboard title to execute and view the dashboard.

Note: Your new dashboard appears in the Dashboard Viewer.

 

Task 4: Add a title and save the dashboard, is complete.
