Using the Repository Activity

Action

1. 

Begin by logging into JasperReports Server.

 

Enter joeuser into the User ID field.

2. 

Enter joeuser into the Password field.

3. 

Click the Login button.

4. 

The Home Page appears.

5. 

Click the Library menu to view the Library.

6. 

Note: The Library offers a focused view of repository objects. It displays only the Ad Hoc views, reports, and dashboards that the currently logged-in user has rights to view and work with.

Note: The Library displays five columns of information:

 

 

- Name

- Description

- Type

- Created Date

- Modified Date

 

Near the top-right corner, you can click

to sort this resource list by Name or Modified Date.

Note: Right-click on an item to view the context menu. The right-click context menu facilitates the following, depending on your permission levels:

 

- Run and schedule reports

- Open Ad Hoc views and generate reports from them

- Run and edit dashboards

- Run OLAP views

From the main menu select View > Repository.

Note: The Repository page appears.

Expand the Public folder to view repository resources.

Expand the Samples folder.

Note: The Samples folder contains many folders with sample data that ships with JasperReports Server.

Click the Reports folder name to display this folder's report titles in the Repository panel at the right.

Note: The Repository panel displays the contents of the selected folder.

Click a report’s name to open that report for viewing.

 

Click 05. Accounts Report to view it.

Note: The Accounts report opens for inspection.

Note: Use pagination arrow buttons at the top left to page through the report.

Click the Back button at the upper right to return to the reports list.

Right-click the 05. Accounts Report link to view the context menu.

Note: The context menu provides options with which you operate on any repository resource.

Note: Notice that right-clicking the report title highlighted the report's row. Selecting one or more rows in the Repository panel enables the menu bar near the top of the panel, in which some of the context menu options are found.

Now, click to collapse the Public folder.

Explore other folders in the Folders panel.

 

Click to expand the Organization folder.

Click to expand the Ad Hoc Components folder.

Click to select the Topics folder.

Note: This is the default folder in which Topics are stored. Topics are data sources for views created in the Ad Hoc Editor. These Topics ship with the JasperReports Server sample data.

Click to collapse the Ad Hoc Components folder.

Click to select the Domains folder.

Note: Domains are another kind of data source that users access in the Ad Hoc Editor to build views. Domains are stored in their own folder, just as Topics are.

Click to collapse the Organization folder.

Now, explore a sample dashboard.

 

Click to expand the Public folder.

Click to select the sample Dashboards  folder.

The contents of the Dashboards folder appears at the right.

The 1. SuperMart Dashboard ships with the JasperReports Server sample data.

 

Click the 1. Supermart Dashboard link to open the dashboard.

Note: The Supermart Dashboard appears.

 

 

It consists of three reports:

Top 5, Sales Performance and Key Indicators.

Note: Hovering the cursor over any one of the three reports title bars brings up a tool bar that lets you refresh that one report, or open that one report in a new window.

Click the browser’s Back button in the upper left of the window to return to the repository page.

Click to close the Public folder.

Click to expand the Organization folder.

Finally, right click the Reports folder name to display the context menu.

Note: From the folder context menu, this user can add a folder, add a resource, copy, cut or delete the folder, or view the folder properties.

Select Properties from the context menu.

Note: In the Properties window joeuser can edit this folder's name and description.

Note: At the bottom of the Properties window, the User Access property reflects that joeuser has Modify and Delete permissions on this folder.

Click the Cancel button to close the Properties window.

Note: The Properties window closes.
