Using Input Controls Activity

Action

1. 

Begin by opening the report named Promotion Detail Report.

 

Enter "Promotion" into the search field and click the search button.

2. 

Note: Resources with the word promotion in their title or description field appear in the search results page.

3. 

Click the Promotion Detail Report link with the description 50 page report to open the report.

4. 

Note: The Options button appears for this report. The Options button is present with every report that uses input controls. Click it to open a window displaying the input controls.

Click the Options button.

Note: The Input Controls window appears.

7. 

Note: The Input Controls window displays the following buttons:

 

 

- Apply applies your selection to the report and leaves the input control window open

- OK applies your selection and closes the window

- Reset returns the input control(s) to its default value

- Cancel closes the input control window

- Save saves a copy of the report filtered by the value submitted in the input control(s)

Click the Promotion Name drop-down to view filter values.

Select the filter value Bag Stuffers | 992.

10. 

Click the Apply button.

Note: Notice that the report is changed. The filter is applied and the Input Controls window remains open. 

 

You may have to move the Input Controls window down to see the results.

Next, select another value.

 

Click the Promotion Name drop-down.

Select Big Time Savings | 1072.

Click the OK button to view the filtered report.

Note: The report applies the filter and closes the Input Controls window.

 

Task 1: Explore reports with input controls, is complete.

Next, open the Input Controls window again to save this filter.

 

Click the Options button.

Click the Save button at the lower right.

The Save Values window appears.

 

Enter Savings for the filter name and click the Save button just below.

Note: Notice the section in the Input Controls window. This list allows you to call up a report with saved options.

Click the OK button to close the Input Controls window.

Now, view the report with the saved input control values.

 

Enter savings into the search field and click the search button.

A caret appears to the left of the report name, indicating that this report is available in at least one version other than the default.

 

Click the caret.

The title of the filtered report appears.

 

Click the report title Savings to view the report.

Note: The filtered and saved report appears. If you regularly view the same information in a report, then saving that version of the report will save you time; you no longer need to open the default report and select input control values each time you want to view that information.

 

Task 2: Save input control values in a report, is complete.

Next, explore cascading input controls.

 

Enter casc into the search field.

Click the Search button.

The search results appear.

Click the Cascading multi select topic link to open the report.

Note: The report appears.

 

 

The Options panel opens at the left.

 

Note: This report uses three input controls.

Note: The first two controls are multi-select fields, allowing you to select one or more options for country and state/territory. The third control displays the names of companies in the selected states or territories.

Click to open the Country multi select button on the right side of the field just below Country multi select label.

Selecting one or more values in the Country list issues a database query that returns state/territory names to dynamically populate the second field.

 

Click the Mexico list item in the first control.

Click the Close button in the lower right of the multi select list.

Click the State multi select button.

Note: The state control is now populated with names of Mexican states in addition to the USA states.

Note: There are type-ahead fields at the top of each input control. For example, when you type Mex in the Country field, only values in the multi-select list starting with Mex are displayed. The values in the list displayed change as you continue to type.

Click the USA | CA list item in the second input control to deselect it.

Click the Mexico | Jalisco list item in the second input control to select it.

Click the Close button at the bottom right of the multi select list.

Click to open the Cascading name drop-down in the third input control.

Note: The third input control is dynamically populated with names of companies that operate in the selected states or territories.

Click to select B & P Colon Telecommunications Holdings in the third input control.

Click the Apply button to execute the report.

Note: The report displays the information for the company you selected.

Note: At the lower left, you can click buttons to reset or save the cascading input control values.
