Viewing and Modifying Dashboards Activity

Action

1. 

Note: In this activity, log into JasperReports Server as jasperadmin because joeuser does not have permission to edit the sample dashboards.

 

Enter "jasperadmin" into the User ID and Password fields, then click the Log In button.

2. 

Note: Begin by searching for dashboards.

Enter the word "dashboard" into the search field at the upper right and click the search button.

3. 

In the resulting list of dashboards, right-click the 1. Supermart Dashboard title.

4. 

Select Open in Designer to open this dashboard in the Dashboard Designer.

5. 

Note: The Dashboard Designer appears.

 

 

Task 1: Open a dashboard and view its reports, is complete.

6. 

Next, use the Dashboard Designer to edit the dashboard.

 

At the left is the Available Content panel. Click the small button immediately to the left of the word Available to hide the panel and view the full dashboard.

Note: The Top 5 report at the left and Key Indicators report at the right need to switch places. Move dashboard objects on the canvas with drag and drop.

8. 

First, move the input controls and buttons at the lower right out of the way.

 

Click and drag a selection marquee around the Start Month, End Month, and Reset/Submit buttons, then move all six to below the center report.

Note: The six items should now appear under the Sales Performance report.

10. 

Note: When you mouse over a dashboard item, a blue frame outlines the object to indicate it can be selected.

 

Click once on the Key Indicators report to select it. A broken line around an object indicates it is selected and can be moved.

Move the Key Indicators report to make room for the Top 5 report.

 

Click and drag the Key Indictors report down far enough so the Top 5 report can fit in that space above it.

Drag the Top 5 report over to the location vacated by the Key Indicators report.

13. 

Drag the Key Indicators report into the location vacated by the Top 5 report.

Note: The dashboard is modified to Management’s specifications.

15. 

Now, save the new dashboard.

 

Point to the Save button to view its options.

16. 

Select the Save Dashboard As menu item.

17. 

In the Save As window, enter the name "Supermart Dashboard Revised".

18. 

Note: At the bottom of the window the Dashboards folder is already selected as the save location.

19. 

Click the Save button to save the dashboard in the SuperMart Demo folder.

20. 

Note: The revised dashboard is saved to the same folder as the original.

 

Task 2: Modify a dashboard, is complete.

Lastly, retrieve the dashboard and make sure it runs properly.

 

Enter the word "Revised" into the Search field.

22. 

Click the Search button to retrieve the new dashboard.

23. 

Click the OK button in the message window to quit the Dashboard Designer.

24. 

Click the Supermart Dashboard Revised title link to display the dashboard.

Note: Your saved dashboard appears. Note the following:

- The position of the Key Indicators gauge needles

- The dollar figures displayed in the Sales Performance report

- The names and dollar figures displayed in the Top 5 report

26. 

Watch how all three reports change when new input control values are entered.

 

Near the bottom of the dashboard, click the Start Month input control drop-down and select March.

27. 

Click the End Month drop-down and select August.

28. 

Click the Submit button to view the updated reports.

29. 

Note: The updated reports display revised data.

 

Task 3: Enter input control values to test the dashboard, is complete.
