Creating Views from Domains Activity

1. 

Begin by accessing the Ad Hoc Data Chooser window.

 

Point to the Create menu.

2. 

Click the Ad Hoc View menu item.

3. 

Note: The Data Chooser window appears.

4. 

Click the Domains link near the top left to display the lists of Domains.

5. 

Click to select Supermart Domain.

6. 

Click the Choose Data button to open the Data Chooser wizard.

7. 

Note: The Data Chooser wizard appears.

 

Only the first page of the four-page Data Chooser wizard is mandatory. You can optionally configure filters, edit display labels, and save your configuration as a new Topic.

 

In this activity, you work through the first two wizard pages.

First, select the fields to be made available in the new view.

 

Expand Expenses in the Source panel to view the available fields.

Note: Two fields appear, along with two subdatasets.

Double-click the Expense Date field to move it to the Selected Fields panel.

Note: The Expense Date field is removed from the Source panel and moved to the Selected Fields panel.

Double-click the Expense Amount field to move it over.

Note: The Expense Amount field appears in the Selected Fields panel.

Click to expand Stores in the Source panel.

Click to expand Regions.

Next, select and move several fields together.

 

Click the City field.

17. 

Press the [Ctrl] key and click the Region field.

Press the [Ctrl] key and click the Country field.

Click the Add button which is the single right-arrow icon between the two windows. If you hover the curser over the icon, the name Add will pop up.

Note: The fields are moved to the Selected Fields panel.

 

Note: The dataset hierarchy accompanies the three fields to the Selected Fields panel: Stores > Regions > City/Region/Country

Now, create a filter for the view.

 

Click the Pre-filters button at the far left to move to page two of the wizard.

Note: The Pre-filters page appears.

Expand Expenses in the Fields panel.

Expand Stores.

Expand Regions to view the Region field names.

Double-click Country to create a filter on the field.

Note: The filter criteria panel appears. The default operator is equals.

Next, define the filter.

 

Click the Country drop-down.

Select Mexico from the list.

Note: The filter is defined as Country equals Mexico.

 

Note: By default, the Locked option is not selected. This allows the person viewing the report to specify other countries in the filter. To disable this, check the Locked option.

Click the OK button to save this filter configuration.

Note: The filter appears in the list, and indicates that it is unlocked.

Skip the last two (optional) wizard pages and open the Ad Hoc Editor.

 

Click the Crosstab button at the lower left to open the Ad Hoc Editor.

Note: The Ad Hoc Editor appears. Notice that the Expenses dataset appears in both the Fields and Measures panels, because the dataset includes both numeric and non-numeric values.

Expand Expenses at the top left to view its fields.

Now, build the crosstab view.

 

Double-click the Expense Date field to move it to the Rows box.

Note: Expense Date appears as a row group in the crosstab view.

Expand Expenses at the lower left to view its measures.

Double-click the Expense Amount measure.

Note: Expense Amount is added to the Columns box.

Expand Stores in the Fields panel.

Expand Regions.

Right-click on the Country field.

Click the Add to Columns menu item.

Note: The Country field is added to the view.

Expand Measures at the top left of the crosstab view, under the title bar.

Note: The Country field displays as a Column Group. The filter created earlier restricts displayed countries to Mexico.

Right-click Region in the Fields panel and select Add to Columns.

Note: Region appears in the crosstab view as a column group.

Expand the Country column header to view the Region specifics.

Note: Regions of Mexico appear.

Now, save the report.

 

Point to the Save menu.

Click the Save Ad Hoc View As menu item.

Enter the name Domain Crosstab Expenses.

Expand the Organization folder.

Select the Reports folder.

Click the Save button.

Note: The crosstab filter view is saved to the repository, where users can access it.
